Ashley Hicks Graphic motifs of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s have returned as reference points for contemporary style – in fashion and interiors, industrial and web design – pattern has never been more posh; color is, once again, cool. And, no practitioner of the postwar period employed these tools with more exuberance – and influence – than British designer David Hicks. Now, the late designer’s work reclaims the vanguard with a next-generation program of decorating products adapted by his son, designer and author Ashley Hicks.
Ashley Hicks was born in 1963 in London and is the son of legendary designer David Hicks and Lady Pamela Mountbatten. Educated at Stowe School, Bath Academy of Art, and the Architectural Association in London, Ashley has an extensive background in architecture and design.
In 1990 he married Italian designer Allegra Tondato. They moved to New York for a year and then returned to London in 1992. There, Ashley’s career flourished as an architect and designer. In 1992, Allegra gave birth to their first daughter Angelica. Five years later, their second daughter Ambrosia was born.
Today, Ashley runs a successful business in design interiors, furniture and accessories. They are exclusively available at the Allegra Hicks shop in London. He has also published several books including David Hicks – My Kind of Garden, Ashley & Allegra Hicks and David Hicks – Designer. The David Hicks by Ashley Hicks line from Groundworks can be found at Lee Jofa showrooms nationwide. |
